Day 2
The Road to Colorado

We left Richfield without getting gas. Big mistake. We ended up in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone reception on "E". We had to take a side trip to a town 25 miles off the highway to find gas. It wasn't looking good, I was pretty scared, and Fred and I both thought that he would have to skate to the gas station. We couldn't see a town anywhere, and we were traveling down a tiny road that was pretty hilly, so with each hill we held our breath that we would see the town on the other side. Somehow, we made it.
The teensy tiny little town that we made it to had some pretty prehistoric gas pumps. Randy's. I'll never forget that gas station. Emery, UT.

Charlie didn't even notice.
Devil's Canyon
Tunnels!!!
We stayed the night in Denver with my friend Kailee and her boyfriend. For some reason, I didn't take any pictures of that. Lame. Anywho, her boyfriend had the same gas station story as us. At the same station and everything, but heading in the other direction. Randy's must get a lot of that. Denver was really beautiful and old. Fred skated at their new park and loved it so much that he had to go back in the morning and skate it again. (Side note: we ran into some kids from San Marcos when we stopped for dinner in Utah the first night. They had just come from Colorado and told Fred that he HAD to skate that park- he wouldn't regret it.)
Day 1 of our trip to Omaha
We got an early start on our trip, which was good because we had some false starts and needed to get some errands done. We finally got out of town around noon.

We stopped in Baker, CA for lunch at Bob's Big Boy. It was a Big Disappointment. So gross. At least they had the giant statue of the Big Boy out front.
We also swung by the Alien Jerky store for a picture. I have no idea what the deal is with that place, but it's good to see that aliens buy American. Nice Ford Taurus.

When we crossed into Nevada, this was one of the first signs that I saw. Test drive an automatic weapon!!! Awesome!!! These people are totally nuts.
UTAH!

RAIN!

We got to our destination (Richfield, UT) around 10 pm. Then Google maps got us lost trying to find our hotel and took us down a dirt road. I had to call the hotel to find out that it was the next exit that we needed. We lost about a half hour. Thanks, iPhone!!!
There was an old woman who got on the elevator with us on the way to our room. She had just gotten out of the pool, and was wearing only her bathing suit. Sassy! She wore it to the free continental breakfast, too! But that's getting into the next post.

Swing, Baby, Swing!
Oh boy what a wonderful weekend. We went to the skatepark with Fred (both days!!) and Charlie really enjoyed it! He already loves riding on skateboards and pushing them around. It's a good thing we got a helmet for him for his birthday. We snuck away for a quick photo shoot while Fred was tearing up the skatepark and showing the little kids what's what. I got some photos of Fred ripping a hip, but it turned out that I was getting him in his descent, which isn't good. It was my first time. I never claimed to be a skate photographer. He's lucky I even got him in the frame!
I tried to include a video. Didn't work out. It's cool though, you aren't missing much. Haha! Just kidding Fred! xoxoxo!

Happy Birthday Charlie!!
Yessssssss
Well, the Robot Cake turned out great! I was very happy with how it looked, although I heard that the fondant tasted kinda gross. That's probably why there are instructions on how to mix in flavoring! Oh well. It was hard work!
Charlie definitely enjoyed eating his first chocolate!!! He was given the head of the robot, and he ate almost the entire thing! He loved it!
The party was a lot of fun. It was great to have so many people around who care about Charlie. There was quite a turnout! I was pretty impressed with myself at being able to pull it all off. AND I wasn't too hungover the next day, which was awesome.
